Not the end. A new beginning.
IT reuse and recycling impact from Bioteknik: repair, reuse and responsible IT recycling.
Your old IT still has a future. We look for it — protecting your data, finding opportunities for reuse and recording what happens next.
The most valuable thing in old technology? Its next chapter.
Reuse first. Not reuse at any cost. We prioritise reuse where equipment is suitable and record the recycling or destruction route where it is not.
Better decisions. Recorded outcomes.
Our public dashboard shows aggregated received-device outcomes from completed, non-test recycling jobs. Reused, ready for reuse, sent for recycling, confirmed recycled and destroyed are distinct recorded routes. Monthly and cumulative charts show processing activity, not carbon savings. Counts are collection records, not deduplicated lifetime devices.
Not just collected. Considered. Secure. Recorded.
Collect, assess, secure, repair and test, then record the outcome.
Estimated potential CO₂e avoided through refurbishment and reuse
The separate potential CO₂e panel shows the estimate, included equipment, prepared-for-reuse and recorded-as-reused counts, and coverage. It applies additional eligibility checks to qualifying equipment from completed non-test jobs; not every recorded outcome receives a carbon estimate.
Not calculated is distinct from zero: unsupported equipment, incomplete checks, unclear identities and withdrawn contributions are reported separately. A successful read with no qualifying devices can show zero; unavailable information is not treated as zero. Each client's permitted contribution is part of the public total, not an additional saving.
This is a potential-benefit scenario, not a measured or verified reduction. It assumes suitable refurbished equipment meets an equivalent need instead of new equipment for the further-use periods below. Ready for reuse does not mean a sale has been recorded.
| Equipment | Further use | Potential CO₂e avoided |
|---|---|---|
| Laptops | 3 years | 81.9 kg |
| Desktop computers (excluding monitor) | 3 years | 127.5 kg |
| Smartphones | 2 years | 49.2 kg |
| Tablets | 2 years | 40.6 kg |
Annual net reference benefits are multiplied by the study’s matching further-use duration, once only. These French-market lifecycle scenarios are proxies for this estimate, not measurements of Bioteknik’s UK operations. Actual benefit depends on useful life, repairs, transport and electricity. No extra recycling credit is added.
A device needs recorded preparation, passed checks, applicable data treatment and lock checks, plus a reuse outcome. Unsupported equipment, incomplete checks and unclear or repeated serial identities are not credited. Later staff withdrawals remove the estimate without altering the original job outcome or signed documents.
This is not a carbon offset and must not simply be deducted from a company’s own footprint. The estimate spans assumed further use, not emissions measured in one calendar year. Outcome charts retain the record at job completion; the CO₂ estimate also reflects later eligibility adjustments.

A meaningful story. Not an inflated number.
The healing planet is illustrative, not a measurement. Weight, water, raw-material and tree equivalents are not reported. Client names, serial numbers, collection locations and staff notes are not returned to this public page.
