Walk-in computer workshop & store · Canterbury
Before you replace your computer, bring it to the bench.
Local computer repairs, sensible upgrades and tested refurbished equipment—helping homes, students and small businesses spend less and keep useful technology in service.
Fix what has failed
A clear diagnosis and quotation before repair work begins.
Improve what you own
Storage, memory and practical improvements can extend useful life.
Replace only when it makes sense
Choose tested refurbished equipment when repair is not the best-value route.
What brings you in?
Start with the problem you can see.
Choose the closest match. This is not an online diagnosis—it shows the questions the workshop can help answer before you commit to a repair or replacement.
WHY IS IT SLOW?
A slow computer does not always need replacing. Diagnosis can identify storage, memory, software or heat-related bottlenecks before you decide.
VISIBLE DAMAGE
Screens, hinges, ports and other physical faults can often be assessed for repair. Part availability and the device's value help shape the recommendation.
POWER PATH
Charging faults can come from the adaptor, battery, port or internal hardware. The workshop checks the likely cause before recommending parts or repair.
SOFTWARE HEALTH
Updates, unwanted software, viruses and damaged system files can affect a usable machine. We can assess the problem and discuss the safest practical route.
ROOM TO IMPROVE
An SSD, additional memory or sensible servicing may make an older computer feel useful again without the cost and waste of replacing the whole device.
HANDLE WITH CARE
Recovery depends on the fault and condition of the storage media. We will explain the available options and likely limitations before proceeding.
One device · four decisions
The right answer is not always “buy a new one.”
Follow one computer from the first fault to the most sensible next step. The recommendation changes with the condition, likely benefit and value of the work.
Start with what is not working.
Bring the device to the Hersden workshop and explain the symptoms. No appointment is needed duringing hours.
Find the cause before choosing the cure.
The workshop assesses the likely fault, the device's condition and the practical repair options. You receive an explanation and quotation before work begins.
Change the part, not the whole machine.
Where it makes sense, repair restores the fault or an upgrade improves speed, capacity or useful life without replacing everything that still works.
Keep it, improve it, or move to refurbished.
If repair is uneconomical, the team will say so. You can explore tested refurbished equipment or arrange secure recycling for a device that has reached the end of use.
The workshop starts with the device and what you have noticed.
The local refurbished store
Need a laptop for school, uni, home or work?
Choose what the equipment needs to do. The aim is to match useful performance to the person—not sell more computer than they need.
A dependable laptop for schoolwork
For homework, web research, documents and video calls, the right refurbished laptop can provide what is needed without paying for unused performance.
Portable technology for study
A student machine needs to balance portability, storage, battery condition and the software required for the course—not simply carry the newest badge.
Straightforward technology for everyday life
Email, shopping, photos, streaming and staying in touch rarely require an expensive new computer. A tested refurbished option may be a better fit.
Business-grade equipment for focused work
Refurbished business laptops, desktops, workstations, docks and monitors can support home offices, small businesses and growing local teams.
Upgrade the parts that shape performance
For gaming and creative work, the useful question is where the real bottleneck sits. An upgrade may be more sensible than replacing the complete system.
FOR LONGERSpend less.
Waste less.
Money and materials both matter
Spend less. Waste less. Choose what works.
Sustainability becomes practical when it also makes sense for the customer. The workshop helps compare the routes without assuming that repair—or replacement—is always right.
Repair when the rest is still useful
Keep the device, setup and familiarity you already have.
Upgrade the bottleneck
Improve the part that limits performance rather than replacing every component.
Choose tested refurbished equipment
Find a more affordable route when a different machine is genuinely needed.
Recycle only at the end of useful life
Free local drop-off is available for unwanted IT equipment.

How we handle customer and service information · Contact the team
Do I need an appointment for a computer repair?
No. You can bring your computer or laptop to the Hersden workshop duringing hours. The team will carry out an initial assessment and explain the next step.
Do you charge for the initial diagnosis?
Bioteknik currently offers free diagnostics before repair. If further investigation or chargeable work is needed, that will be explained before it begins.
What equipment can I bring in?
The workshop handles laptops, desktop PCs, Apple Macs, gaming PCs and business computers, including common hardware, software, upgrade and data-recovery enquiries.
Will I receive a price before the repair?
Yes. The aim is to diagnose the fault and provide an honest quotation before repair work is authorised, so you can decide whether it represents good value.
How long will a repair take?
Timing depends on the fault, workload and whether parts are required. The workshop will advise you after diagnosis and keep you informed if the position changes.
What happens if the computer is not worth repairing?
The team will explain why and can discuss a suitable refurbished replacement, secure recycling, or possible value in eligible equipment instead of carrying out an uneconomical repair.
Can I buy a refurbished laptop or desktop in the store?
Yes. The Canterbury workshop has changing stock that may include laptops, desktop PCs, workstations, monitors and accessories. Call ahead if you need something specific.
Can you upgrade a computer that still works?
Yes. Compatible SSD, storage and memory upgrades can be assessed where they offer a practical improvement. The likely benefit and cost are discussed before work.
What should we agree when booking equipment in?
Tell us the fault, any important data or backup requirement, and whether you need a quotation or have a pre-approved spending limit. Chargeable work and any extra investigation are discussed before they begin. Your booking-in receipt records what has been left with us; it is not a diagnosis, quotation or guarantee of repair or data recovery.
How should I prepare my data and device access?
Back up important information where possible and tell the team about any data you need to keep. A backup or data-recovery service must be discussed rather than assumed. If a local device login or PIN is needed for testing, arrange this directly with staff. Do not send online-account passwords through our enquiry form.
How do I arrange collection or raise a concern?
Contact the workshop with your repair reference. Keep your booking-in receipt, confirm who will collect the equipment and ask the team to explain completed work, charges and any remaining limitations. If you have a concern, explain the issue so it can be reviewed. This does not affect your applicable consumer rights.
Do not replace it yet.
Bring the device to the local workshop. We will help you decide whether repair, upgrade, refurbished replacement or recycling makes the most sense.
