Yes. Bioteknik’s collection service is designed for businesses, public-sector organisations and other commercial organisations rather than household collections.

Do we need to prepare equipment before collection?
Preparation helps collections run more smoothly. Where possible, consolidate equipment, separate retained items from disposal stock, remove SIM and memory cards where appropriate, and release device-management or activation locks before collection.

Yes, incomplete or damaged equipment can usually still be processed. Damaged or unusual assets should be identified where practical because they may need different handling, especially if storage media or batteries are affected.
Do you need a list of equipment before collection?
A pre-collection list is very useful, especially for larger or higher-assurance projects. Make, model, serial number, asset tag and device type can help with planning, although the final audit may still be completed by Bioteknik after collection.
Is IT recycling collection free?
Many standard business IT recycling collections can be provided without a collection charge where the equipment volume, location and recoverable value make the project viable. Small, difficult-access or specialist projects may need a charge, so viability is assessed before booking.
What affects the cost of a collection?
The main factors are location, equipment volume, access, staffing, vehicle time, specialist handling, the required audit depth and any enhanced data-destruction evidence. We aim to confirm the service level before the collection is agreed.
Is secure data destruction included?
Secure processing of data-bearing equipment forms part of the IT disposal workflow, but the level of evidence can vary. Standard projects may use project-level records, while higher-assurance work can require device-level logs, detailed reconciliation or witnessed destruction and may be chargeable.

Enhanced projects involve more labour and evidence: additional scanning, reconciliation, device-level records, destruction or sanitisation logs, exception handling and more detailed reporting. The charge reflects the audit and assurance work rather than simply the physical act of destroying data.
How do you destroy data on hard drives and SSDs?
The method is matched to the media type and project requirement. Depending on the asset and required outcome, processing can include secure erasure, degaussing for suitable magnetic media, physical destruction or a combination of methods.
Data destruction service →Do all drives need to be physically shredded?
No. Physical shredding is one possible route, but it is not always necessary or the most sustainable option. Where an approved sanitisation or destruction method can meet the requirement while preserving equipment for reuse, that can be preferable.
Can you provide device-level destruction evidence?
Yes, where the project is scoped for enhanced assurance. Device-level evidence can include serial-number reconciliation and method-specific records such as wipe or degauss logs where those outputs are available.
What happens if a drive cannot be securely erased?
A failed or unsuitable erase should be treated as an exception rather than silently passed. The device can be routed to another appropriate destruction method and recorded according to the agreed project evidence level.
Can mobile phones and tablets be securely processed?
Yes. Mobile devices require both data handling and account-management checks. Encryption, factory reset and secure processing are important, but organisations should also remove Apple, Google, Samsung or enterprise management locks so devices do not re-enrol or remain activation-locked.

Yes, certificates can be provided for data-destruction projects. The certificate confirms the project or destruction activity, while more detailed services can include additional device-level evidence where agreed.
What other paperwork can be provided?
Depending on the project, records can include asset or serial-number lists, waste transfer documentation, hazardous-waste paperwork where applicable, destruction evidence, exception records and project close-out reporting.
Is a certificate the same as a full device-level audit?
No. A certificate is useful project evidence, but it does not automatically contain the detailed device-by-device trail that some organisations require. If serial-level or method-level evidence is needed, that should be agreed as part of the service scope.
What is ITAD?
IT Asset Disposition, or ITAD, is the controlled process for taking end-of-life IT assets out of service. It combines collection, asset accountability, data security, reuse or value recovery, compliant recycling, exception handling and project evidence.

Yes. Auditing can be completed at different levels depending on the project. Standard projects may record data-bearing assets and key equipment details, while enhanced projects can use more detailed scanning and reconciliation.
What if serial numbers or asset tags are missing or illegible?
Those assets can still be processed, but the exception should be recorded clearly. Where no reliable identifier is available, the audit can mark that condition rather than inventing or assuming an identity.
Can you reconcile our supplied asset list against what you receive?
Yes, where reconciliation is included in the project scope. This is particularly useful for larger estates, public-sector work and projects where the client needs visibility of missing, unexpected or unmatched equipment.
Why do MDM and activation locks need to be removed?
A secure data wipe does not necessarily remove ownership, activation or enterprise-management controls. Devices left in Intune, Autopilot, Apple Business Manager, Knox, Jamf or similar systems can re-enrol or become unusable for legitimate reuse.

Locked devices can still be securely processed, but reuse and value recovery may be reduced. Where Bioteknik spends additional time attempting to resolve a locked device, an administration charge may apply under the agreed service terms.
Will you return locked devices so we can remove MDM later?
The preferred approach is to remove management and activation locks before collection. Once equipment has entered the disposal workflow, projects should not rely on devices being returned solely for later MDM removal unless that has been specifically agreed in advance.
Which management platforms should we check?
Common examples include Microsoft Intune and Autopilot, Apple Business Manager, iCloud Activation Lock, Samsung Knox, Google account protection, Jamf, Workspace ONE, HP Sure Admin and manufacturer or BIOS management controls.
Do you try to reuse equipment before recycling it?
Yes, where it is secure, practical and commercially sensible. Reuse and refurbishment can extend equipment life and reduce unnecessary material recycling, provided ownership, management locks and data-security requirements have been resolved.

Some equipment can retain value depending on model, age, specification, condition, demand, testing results and the work needed to prepare it for reuse. Any value-return arrangement should be assessed against the actual estate rather than assumed from headline resale prices.
What happens to equipment that cannot be reused?
Assets that are unsuitable for direct reuse can be considered for refurbishment or parts recovery before residual material is routed to appropriate recycling. The exact outcome depends on condition, economics, security requirements and material type.
How quickly can you arrange a collection?
Lead time depends on location, project size, access and the level of preparation required. Straightforward collections may be arranged quickly, while large, multi-site or high-assurance projects benefit from more planning before a date is fixed.
Can you collect from London and the South East?
Yes. London, Kent and the wider South East are core service areas, with other UK projects assessed according to size and logistics.
Can you handle multi-site collections?
Yes. Multi-site work is easier to control when each location follows the same preparation, contact, asset and reporting standard. Collections can then be reconciled by site and consolidated into a central project record.

Can data destruction be carried out onsite?
Yes, onsite data destruction is available for projects where the organisation wants the destruction activity completed at its premises or witnessed by its team.

It can be useful where policy, risk appetite, internal governance or chain-of-custody requirements make it preferable for data-bearing media to be destroyed before leaving the site.
Does onsite destruction remove the need for auditing?
Not necessarily. The destruction location and the evidence level are separate decisions. A project may still require serial-number capture, reconciliation, witness records or certificates whether destruction happens onsite or offsite.
How should we assess an IT disposal supplier?
Look beyond a single certificate. Consider ownership and handover controls, secure holding, asset accountability, data methods, waste duty of care, exception handling, evidence quality and whether the supplier can explain the complete route from collection to final outcome.

Retain enough evidence to show who authorised disposal, what assets left your control, how data-bearing equipment was handled, what exceptions occurred and what final records were supplied. The depth should match your organisation’s risk and governance requirements.
Do all organisations need exactly the same disposal process?
No. The appropriate controls depend on the data, equipment, sector, internal policies, contractual obligations, project scale and risk. A smaller office refresh may not need the same evidence depth as a large public-sector or highly sensitive project.
Where should we start if we are unsure what service level we need?
